Classes Columbia River Native People used the “Z-twine” to weave baskets. Historically these were used for storage for food and personal items, and for trade. • For ease in learning the technique to twine images, commercial yarn will be used.
• To create the Wasco Sally Bag with the traditional unique geometric images, you will learn the full-turn twine technique.
• You will learn the “Z-twine” and weave with two different colored wefts to create designs.
• You will learn the traditional Wasco Start at the base, and you will learn the traditional braid at the rim.
• The class is 6 hours and you will finish a basket approximately 3 ½ inches diameter and 5 inches tall.

• Limited classes are given per year, to preserve the plant materials used in weaving.
• You will learn the “Z-twine”, the traditional Wasco Start at the base, and you will have options to finish the rim.
• You will learn to splice the plant fibers, and also learn the cross warp technique.
• This class will use traditional plant fibers: tule, cattail leaves, sedge grass, and possibly others. Materials will be supplied.
• The class is 8 hours and you will finish a basket approximately 4 inches diameter and 5 to 6 inches tall.
